Seasonal catalog · late summer 2026
A seed list written for a windowsill.
Varieties we actually grow in pots, trays, and the greenhouse behind the studio. Circle two. Sow those. Leave the rest for next year.
Late summer sowing
Still time, if you have a window.
August still takes pea shoots, basil, and a last Sungold in a warm south window. Calendula and nasturtium will flower before the light drops. Leave the Cherokee Purple for next year’s filing cabinet — it wants a longer runway than what’s left of this season.
| Variety | Days | Light | Habit |
|---|---|---|---|
Tomato Cherokee Purple Dusky rose flesh, smoky-sweet. The one we grew first on a filing cabinet and the one people still write us about. 80 days · Full | 80 | Full | Indeterminate, 5 gal pot |
Tomato Sungold Candy-orange cherries that keep coming. The desk-farm workhorse — snack, salad, or a handful on the way to a meeting. 57 days · Full | 57 | Full | Cherry, trellis or cage |
Tomato San Marzano Compact A shorter paste tomato that still makes sauce. We selected this strain because it does not need a barn. 70 days · Full | 70 | Full | Paste, 3–5 gal |
Tomato Green Zebra Chartreuse stripes, bright acid. Looks like a catalog illustration and tastes like a green apple crossed with a tomato. 75 days · Full | 75 | Full | Slicer, cage |
Pepper Hungarian Hot Wax Banana-yellow to red, mild heat. Pickles well, fries well, and does not sulk if you forget it on a Thursday. 58 days · Warm, bright | 58 | Warm, bright | Bush, 2–3 gal |
Pepper Shishito Blister in a pan with salt. One in ten is hot, which is the entire personality of the variety. 60 days · Warm | 60 | Warm | Prolific bush |
Pepper Padrón The tapas pepper. Harvest at two inches. Same roulette as Shishito, different accent. 65 days · Warm | 65 | Warm | Bush, harvest small |
Herb Genovese Basil The pesto leaf. Pinch the tops. A pot on the return of a desk will perfume the whole room by June. 30 days · Bright | 30 | Bright | Cut-and-come-again |
Herb Lemon Thyme Citrus and woods. Lives for years in a terracotta pot if you do not drown it. The herb we put in the soap. 40 days · Bright | 40 | Bright | Low, woody |
Herb Arp Rosemary A cold-hardy rosemary that forgives an office HVAC. Needles for potatoes, stems for the vase. 90 days · Full | 90 | Full | Perennial shrub |
Green Pea Shoots The ten-day crop. Sweet, crisp, and the reason we made a tray kit. Sow on Sunday, cut before the next one. 10 days · Any bright | 10 | Any bright | Tray, dense sow |
Flower Calendula Pot marigold. Petals in the salad, flowers in the soap rack, a little gold on a gray Tuesday. 55 days · Full | 55 | Full | Branching, 12 in |
Flower Nasturtium Jewel Mix Peppery leaves, edible flowers. Trails off a filing cabinet like it was designed for one. 50 days · Full to part | 50 | Full to part | Trailing or bush |
